Program Requirements

Program Requirements

Are we required to drive to work everyday? Is there a minimum?

Ideally, drivers park their vehicles at work every day. The purpose of the Peak Drive Program is to better understand the impact of bi-directional chargers on the vehicle. The vehicle being plugged in every day would enable us to gather metrics on an ongoing basis.

We absolutely require drivers to plug your EV into the office charger during Peak Events.  We will give you 24-hour notice before anticipating Peak Events. A “Peak Event” is a window of time, generally 3 – 4 hours in length, that we expect to need to discharge the battery of the vehicle back into the building.

Is the parking available for the full term of the lease and does it include weekends?

The parking spot is designated for the Leafs, given the program’s objective of gathering metrics. You absolutely have access to the spots on weekends.

Is the parking spot ours to use as we choose or only for the Leaf?

The parking spot is designated for the Leafs, given the program’s objective of gathering metrics.

Can we rent the Leaf out to car sharing services on weekends?

The Leafs cannot be rented out. The driver is not permitted to use the vehicle for any commercial purposes, for the purposes of the program.

Is there an option to change the location of the parking spot to another downtown building participating in the program?

At this point, we have chargers at the two locations downtown, 30 Adelaide and 150 York. As the program progresses we will have more downtown locations participating in the pilot project.

Did any of the critical events this summer occur over the weekend?

Peak events have been known to happen on weekends, but it’s rare. The lease contract states the following:

Peak expects approximately 15 – 20 of the total Peak Events to fall outside of typical work hours, which may require the vehicle to remain plugged to the charger at the Project Building until 8:00 pm on a weekday.

In the rare case an event is expected to happen on a weekend, we will ask drivers to leave the car at work on the Friday and find an alternate means home, if they can, but it won’t be mandatory.

Insurance

How does insurance work?

The vehicle must be insured by an auto-insurance company, including primary, secondary and occasional drivers on the policy. The lease agreement states:

“At all times during the term of this Lease, you must at your expense obtain and maintain the following minimum insurance coverage:

  1. Public liability for bodily injury or death or damage to the property of others for $2,000,000 per claim regardless of the number of claims from any one accident;

  2. Collision insurance with a maximum deductible of $1,000; and

  3. Comprehensive fire and theft insurance with a maximum deductible of $1,000.”

How many drivers can be insured for one car? Can people from more than one household be insured?

The program is designed for one driver per car, but we are happy to explore this option with you. The purpose of this program is to better understand the impact of bi-directional chargers on the vehicle. The vehicle being plugged in at the office location every day would enable us to gather metrics on an ongoing basis.
Others can drive the vehicle as long as its insured under the primary driver. The only condition regarding sharing is that the Leafs cannot be rented out for commercial use, such as ride-sharing programs.

Home chargers

Which kind of charger do you install at our home?

We would install a Level 2 charger at your home.

Can the charger be installed either inside or outside?

The charger can be installed inside or outside, if there’s access to power and wifi.

What if I move to a different house? Can I take the charger with me?

You are free to have a charger installer reinstall your home charger to a different location. The cost of moving the charger would be yours. Peak Drive pays for the home charger and the first charger installation.

Lease Terms

Is the lease price locked for 3 years?

The lease price remains the same for 3 years.

Can we cancel part way through the three years?

If drivers wish to terminate the lease early, we require them to pay three months payment to Peak Drive.

If I need to cancel my participation in the program, are there any other implications aside from the 3-month notice and prepayment period?

Any additional charges would be the same as any standard lease, such as missed payments, exceeding mileage limits, cost to repair damage to the vehicle, etc.

What is the buyout price for the vehicle?

The residual amount listed on the lease agreement represents the buyout price of the vehicle.

Can I arrange better financing terms?

The financing terms cannot be changed. We are working closely with the Nissan Dealership to get highly competitive pricing. The final program price is the agreed upon amount based on input from all project stakeholders.

Is there a discount if we pay most or all the lease payment in advance?

As per above, the program cost is based on the project requirements. As such, we do not accept upfront payments.

If for any reason we would need to do a lease transfer what would that look like?

Because we require the vehicles to be parked at specific locations downtown, a lease transfer is not feasible. If drivers wish to terminate the lease early, we require them to pay three months payment to Peak Drive. Peak Drive would then lease the vehicle to a different participant.
